The skatepark, created in 2005, features an outdoor skateboard, BMX, and rollerblading park. On May 3, 2023, a new and modern pump track was opened in Tartu, at Tähtvere Recreation Park.

Two different facilities were designed to replace the former wooden-surfaced skatepark – a concrete-surfaced bowl-type skatepark and an asphalt-surfaced pump track section, with a connecting square, access roads, and landscaping. The cost of the design work was 35,000 euros. The skatepark and pump track were designed by Lars Laj Eesti OÜ in cooperation with Mind Work Ramps SIA, Latvia’s largest design company for skateparks and pump tracks.

The first phase of the construction involved the development of the asphalt pump track, including all outdoor routes and access paths across the entire project area. The second phase focused on constructing the concrete-surfaced bowl-type skatepark.

“The opening of the pump track sends a strong signal that Tartu is a bicycle city, with great opportunities for both hobbyists and professional athletes,” said Tartu Deputy Mayor Lemmit Kaplinski. “The track is also part of the overall development of the Laululava area. In addition to the pump track, we will also build a skatepark in the coming years, open a new outdoor gym this June, and improve the Jänese hiking trail on the right bank of the Emajõgi River,” Kaplinski continued.

The pump track consists of two loops: one for beginners and one for advanced riders. The beginner’s loop is 26 meters long, with lower waves, allowing riders to learn the basics of the sport. The 120-meter advanced loop has higher waves and a jump line, where more experienced riders can practice various jumps.

The main contractor for the construction of the pump track was Lars Laj Eesti OÜ in cooperation with Mind Work Ramps SIA. The construction cost for the tracks, street lighting, paths, surfacing, and outdoor lighting was 380,000 euros.

The park serves as a training and gathering place for many children and young people from early spring to late autumn.
